Photoworks Gallery announces a Call for Entries for LISTEN UP!, our 2018 Juried Youth Photography Exhibition.
This documentary competition – our 6th Annual Juried Show for Young Photographers – comes at a time of unprecedented student involvement and activism and students are encouraged to submit their work, and their perspectives, to this year’s show.
The competition is designed for students of photography aged 18 and under and past year’s selected photographs have been taken by students as young as 10 years old.
Emily Whiting, Juror
Emily Whiting has worked with young photographers as a member of the faculty at Photoworks for more than 10 years, teaching classes in darkroom printing, digital editing, book-making, and documentary street photography. Currently, she is collaborating with Rhyme & Reason, a humanities enrichment program founded by University of Pittsburgh faculty, to mentor student photographers in Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood. Their work documenting life in Homewood was exhibited at the Ace Hotel in April at the opening of “Old Paths New Beats: East Side Youth Tell It Like It Is.” Emily has an undergraduate degree from Vassar College and an MBA from the George Washington University.
