Call for 2019 Exhibit Proposals

The Photoworks Gallery 2019 Call For Proposals offers artists locally, nationally, and internationally an opportunity to submit up to 15 images with a proposal for an exhibition. Solo and group exhibitions considered. There is no fee for submission, selected artists are responsible for $650 exhibition costs. Please check the details.

Photoworks exhibits have been frequently reviewed by the Washington City Paper and mentioned in the Washington Post.
Glen Echo Park is a vibrant community of artists and attracts a large and eclectic audience.

Exhibit Dates:  (these dates subject to change)
January 25, 2019- March 3, 2019
April 19, 2019 -May 26, 2019
November 22, 2019 – December 29, 2019
Deadline for submissions:  October 1, 2018
Notification of acceptance: October 21, 2019

Each participating artist should submit:

  • A one page proposal, a description of the work, and a short artist bio.
  • 15 images labeled with the number, artist name and image title
    • Example: 01_Keating_Karen_Reaching for the Light. jpg
  • Image list to include artist name, image title, medium, dimensions of framed work saved as .doc file Not .docx file.
  • Images Sized:
    • -Dimensions: 1500 pixels longest side, maximum.
-File format:  JPEG, Resolution 72dpi, Save as .jpeg quality = 8
  • For exhibit publicity in print media, PW will need images 5”x7” at 300ppi.
  • Deliver images electronically to photoworks.gallery@gmail.com  OR deliver a CD or DVD (SASE for return) to:

  • There is no fee for submission.
  • Proposals may be submitted as a group or individual artist.
  • Exhibitions selected may be for a solo, two or three person exhibit.

ARTIST RESPONSIBILITY:
•    Selected artists will be responsible for $600 exhibition costs if applying for a solo exhibition.  Two and three person and group exhibits divide the fee accordingly.  Checks made payable to Photoworks, Inc.,
•    Artists are required to attend an organizational meeting with exhibitions director. (2 months before the exhibit).
•    For electronic publicity artists must provide a jpeg image, a two or three line statement describing the work, and an email list of artists guests for exhibit announcements.
•    Work must be professionally presented with wires and ready to hang.
•    Labels for walls and handouts with statement, bio, price.
•    Opening Reception and Gallery talk. Artists provide all refreshments.
•    Exhibitors will be expected to be at the gallery for informal talks at least 2 of the Saturdays, 1-4pm during the length of the exhibit.
•    Responsible for removing labels and signage from the walls.
•    Photographs must be picked up promptly when the exhibit closes, We have NO space to safely store anything.
•    SALES:   Artist receives 60% of sale, Photoworks receives 40% of sale

PHOTOWORKS RESPONSIBILITY:
•    Professional hanging of the exhibition.
•    Signage
•    Publicity to include:  sending an email blast to our data base and to artist guest list announcing the exhibition and reception.
•    The exhibit will be listed on Photoworks website, Facebook,and GEPPAC events.
•    Photoworks will write a press release with your information and distribute to media in the Washington, DC area.
•    Required liquor license for the reception.
